At least it's not Iraq...

I DETEST THAT STATEMENT. I have had friends, civilian friends, tell me "Oh he's just going to Afghanistan? At least it's not Iraq." Oh ok. Here's a thought -- send your husband to a country where he will be living in unpleasant conditions, you never know when you'll hear from him and you know of at least three of his co-workers that were killed and quite a few injured. Sit and wait for the phone to ring -- and when it does if you don't recognize the voice right away, you go into panic mode thinking for sure it's someone calling to tell you your husband's been wounded. Even better, if you see a car pull up in front of your house that you don't recognize, let the cold fingers of dread grip your heart until you realize it is NOT casualty assistance officers coming to inform you, regretfully of course, that your husband was killed in action. Yeah.. he's JUST going to Afghanistan.

I don't care if he was being sent to Canada, the fact is, your hubby is going somewhere that you can't see him or talk to him regularly. People can be so dumb. Does it matter that, yeah, he's not going to Iraq, but he is still in danger. Heck, I worry when my hubby goes to work, he can still be killed there. Urgh, I'm sorry to vent, but I just wish a little more thought was put into people before they speak, I guess, I could be one of those people, I hope I didn't offend, I just agree with you.

I'm so sorry he is getting deployed. You are right...it's hard no matter where they go.

I remember my husband would simply be sent off to Panama or Alaska for several weeks of training and I'd worry. Even just a few weeks are hard...a year is even harder. That's why it takes very special women to be army wives!

I'm sure people are trying to comfort you and are really at a loss for words. It wouldn't hurt to remind them that he is still going to be in the Middle East and that he can't just jump in his car and drive home if you need him for some reason.

Puhleeze... they're both hostile places. That's the most rediculous thing I've heard.

Oli leaves one month from today.

Lin, I still just do not have the right words for you and I wish I did.

I care about you and I'm worried and scared for you, but I'd be more worried if you were totally fine with him leaving.

((hugs))

Lin, I would take all my blog friends over some so-called real life friends. It sucks that the people I have things in common with, don't live close to me. Anyway, I hope things are improving for you. I know that it is a difficult time, but, as I keep saying, I'm here for you. Take care.

tI can't even imagine what it must be like for you, but after reading this post, I just want to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry you have to go through this uncertainty day in and day out.

Good luck with the weight loss. Stress did it for me. :)

Hmm... I don't know anyone that has talked about Afghanistan as being a better place than being in Iraq. From what I know, soldiers actually have a better quality of life on many camps in Iraq where they have numerous MWR sites that have facilities including pools. I guess if I say, "At least Gary's not going to Iraq", then you can say, "At least, you're not going to Afghanistan."... Just a little humor.

What makes me so mad is when I see the non-deployable people here complaining that we're using them to do the tedious details. (I'm sure your husband can empathize). They'll complain, but it's like... at least you're not going to Iraq! I thought that's what you were going to blog about... but I shouldn't have doubted you like that, lol. Take care, and talk to you soon!
